Spirit of 14 August

August 30th, 2012 Yousuf Rafi 5 comments

I still remember that on 14th August we use to carry Pakistan flag and circle around school ground singing Dil Dil Pakistan. I still get a bit emotional when I imagine it all. We use to feel the spirit of independence all over the country. Every house was decorated, every car was flagged, every shopkeeper celebrated and everyone use to celebrate in his own way.

Fast forward 65 years later when I ask requested a young girl to wear Pakistan flag she said “Why should I wear and what’s so special about today?” I felt like peron talay zameen nikal gie…. It was really a shame to witness youth of Pakistan so careless about blessing of an Independent country.

We pretend to be an independent country but sorry to say that mentally we are still prisoners. Instead of embracing our own culture we love to carry western influence with us. We feel proud in listening to western music, getting inspired by their media, and follow their walk of Life but in all this we forgot true meaning of Pakistan.

Where is spirit of 14th August? Where is Jinnah ka Pakistan and Iqbal ka pegham

Kya iss liay banaya tha Jinnah ne ye Pakistan
Bastay nahi hain yahan ab Musalman
Yahan to ab rehtay hain Sindhi, Punjabi, Balochi aur Pathan

My brother just came from South Africa and there he witnessed birthday of Nelson Mandela. What do South Africans do? Take holiday and sleep…. Nooooo!!! ON birthday of Mandela every single citizen need to work 2 hours in service to others. Howzzz that for a change!!!!!!!!!

My only concern is that we as Pakistani’s are destroying identity of Pakistan. Email, SMS, Social media we are making fun of ourselves. Please friends Pakistan is a blessing value it. My request to all the youth out there using social media in free time; friends be sensible or shut up!!!!

Take away from the blog…

  • Celebrate Independence with true spirit.
  • Pakistan is your home, protect its identity.
  • How you communicate in social media reflects your identity as a Pakistani; so be sensible!!!
  • Last but not the least…. make a habit of doing research work.. study Muslims scientists, Pakistani leaders from 1947, and try to adopt their Patriotism, Passion, Sincerity,  and Hard Work.
