Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head

September 17th, 2011 Kinza Tahir No comments

200236712-001Only some days back, it was constantly drizzling. It’s been raining here in Karachi since the past week. Although it’s very frantic with heavy showers pouring constantly; it’s bringing in a lot of enjoyment as well. When the rain settles down, people usually visit the sea side or go for long drives. Cruising along the sea view is a delight. You can enjoy the amazing waves hitting the shore. When the light hits the water at night, it just looks beautiful.

Last week when I was out for dinner near the sea side, I quite enjoyed the experience. It was all in the open. When I walked across the table, small drops of rain were striking me. When I looked to my right, the view of the downpour was incredible.

Every year I wait for the rain to fall down on me, when the weather gets cold and the water is chilly. I was walking in the rain and it was like God was pouring his blessings on us. Letting us know he was washing away all the bad things from the world.

I Want To Brag A Minute About Pakistan

September 12th, 2011 Kinza Tahir 5 comments

faisal masjidDon’t get me wrong, I’m generally not that type who boasts but when I thought about it, what is the one thing which I can show off about? It is my very own mother country PAKISTAN. It’s the country where I was born, brought up and now living my life. I have explored most of its famous trademark places, be it Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore, Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi, Faisal Mosque in Islamabad or Lake Saiful Muluk in Kaghan. All these places are absolutely breathtaking. When you visit these areas, you will know you are in the presence of true splendor. All of these are made with spot on brilliance.

My favorite hobby whenever I visited the northern areas was horse-riding; I got to do a lot of it when I visited Nathia Gali and Murree. The horses are so beautiful, strong and free-spirited. I used to enjoy being in their presence when I was a little girl. It’s been my dream since forever to live in those areas in which where ever I look, the surroundings leave me in awe.

Eating out: Getting chili

February 28th, 2011 Yousuf Rafi No comments

Chili WiliAsk most trendy Karachiites where all the best restaurants are and they would undoubtedly come up with spots in Defence, Clifton or Zamzama. But nestled in the heart of Dhoraji is a gem that might quickly become the poster child for quality on the side of town that is more appreciated for its practicality than its style. With a deliberately catchy name and bright sign to boot, Chili Wili, has brought fine dining closer to this part of town.

The interior is cosy, the ambience welcoming and the menu full of tempting treats. For appetizers one has a choice of the usual favorites — salads (with or without chicken), buffalo wings, chicken fingers, et al — though the complimentary serving of nachos and salsa is quite enough for a starter. The nachos aren’t the typical triangular assortment but a shorter, thicker and more four-sided affair; suffice to say, the experience is reminiscent of a slogan for a brand of chips: you can’t eat just one.

I still Love Karachi

February 2nd, 2011 Yousuf Rafi 4 comments

Appreciate blessings from GOD and you’ll be blessed more, complain and you’ll suffer. It’s a common mind set of people in Karachi that we always think what’s wrong with our country but we never try to appreciate what we are blessed with. Despite the fact of all the negativity around I still love my beloved Karachi.

Karachi is known by City of Lights because one can experience people, culture and heritage of Pakistan by a single trip to Karachi. There are opportunities for business, fast phase social life and abundance of entertainment. To start off I would like to share a song by Ahmed Rushdi by the name Bandar Road se Kemari; a song that that will give you a trip to the historical places in Karachi.

Lal QilaLal Qila is an upscale formal dining restaurant located in one of the prime properties in Karachi. Lal Qila means ‘red fort’ and the restaurant draws its inspiration from the Red Fort in Delhi. A vivid and conspicuous realization of the glory of our brilliant esthetical essence. All the way a combination and innovation. Adorned with courtesy of mughlai era Lal Qila offer you to dine out authentic Mughlai , Tandori , Live Bar-B-Que & Traditional Pakistani cuisine.

Open To Sky: Just outside the exit of the Play Area starts it’s compound with a flowing river as there flows river Hamna in the Red Fort Delhi. Its sparkling atmosphere is filled with natural melodious sound of two waterfalls springing fountain & the sound effects of the flowing river.

Restaurant review: Abdul Ghaffar Kabab House

October 14th, 2010 Yousuf Rafi 2 comments
Eating out is one my most favorite things to do. Either it is with family or with friends I love to try out new restaurants every time we go out.  Recently heard about this new restaurant in Karachi Abdul Ghaffar Kabab House (in Tariq Road near Naheed Super Market ) and went there for a change. Well it was Sunday; public was there so we waited for around 20 minutes or so. They had all the basics like sekh kabab, malai boti, reshimi kabab, chicken tikka….menu list was on going. We ordered Chicken tikka, Malai Boti and Reshmi Kabab and started waiting for our order.
Due to excessive public our order came a bit late but it was expected. So talking about the quality… well salad was there but the chatni had no taste at all. On the other hand Chicken tikka (please note that leg piece was more tasty than breast piece) was good, no much spicy and tasty. Reshmi kabab were very soft and tasty and Malati boti was also as per expectations.
I was all done when my brother ordered the halwa (he prefers something sweet with every meal). I tasted this halwa and trust me, can’t explain my feelings; it was out of this world. Tried many halwa’s but this was different; not so sweet but so very tasty. So even without any intension I ate 2 parath’s with this halwa…. A must try if you want to miss the best halwa in Karachi I guess.
Yes I enjoyed every bit of it. Not so expensive serving 4 persons in Rs. 1,000 only. So if you are planning for a dine out with your family and friends my recommendation is for Abdul Ghaffar Kabab House. Do share your experience here… would love to hear from you.

SyedMustafaKamalAs it is rightly said that with great power comes great responsibilities but if the power is huge, responsibility automatically doubles. In Pakistan it’s a common perception that if you are honest with your work it is nearly impossible for you to survive and as it is said that “to dream is easy, to work is also easy but it’s really difficult to work according to your dreams”. Syed Mustufa Kamal Mayor of Karachi is one of those influential people who said that “I have a dream and I will achieve it” and surely he has shown how to achieve your dreams when your vision is clear.

Celebrating Eid ul Azha – the festival of sacrifice

November 29th, 2009 Arsalaan 3 comments

eid_mubarakEid Ul Azha, or the ‘festival of sacrifice’, an important festival in the Islamic Calender that marks the end of the Annual Pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca, known among the muslims as the “Hajj”.

During this three-day festival, muslims are mandated to slaughter designated animals such as sheep, goat, cows, and camels – depending on the availability and cultural norms of the region. All other animals’ sacrifice is forbidden during this festival.

This ‘sacrifice’ is carried out in commemoration of Prophet Ebrahim’s (Abraham) (PBUH) readiness to sacrifice his son to show obedience to God. But just as he was about to run the knife over his son’s throat, the son was promptly replaced by a sheep, and thus, this is how, or rather, why Muslims carry out this ritual.
