London Olympics 2012 The Real Deal

I have grown up watching the Olympics, cherishing every moment. This time being held in London, it is so exciting. Olympics have forever been a unique part of my life. I remember how my sister and I used to watch with our eyes glued to the screen, from diving to swimming to synchronized swimming to gymnastics. All of these sports have a special place in my heart. Apart from being beautiful to watch, the passion seen in the athletes’ eyes leaves you in fascination. One can not even imagine the hard work, the strength put in by those who are taking part in the Olympics.

Olympics: Pakistan hold Spain to 1-1 draw

Pakistan is also taking part which is a very proud moment for all of us. Pakistan has won gold in Hockey in the years 1968 and 1984. How amazing it would have been, people watching live and at homes would have been ecstatic, happy and just so proud.

Beijing Olympics: Starting and ending with a Bang

The much-hyped Beijing Olympics came to end with a bang. They started with a bang, and ended with a bang. The show of unity, discipline and strength portrayed by the Chinese nation will definitely go down in the annuals of sports with golden letters.

But unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the Pakistani nation, or of its contingent sent to the games. Apart from a few performances by Sadaf Siddiqui or Kiran Khan, the track runner, and swimmer, respectively, there is nothing much left to write about any of other players. And, the least said about the Hockey Team the better.

A shameful performance

There used to be a time, many eons ago, when Pakistani sports players were looked upon as semi gods by all – young and old, and Pakistani teams were almost invincible on the field. They used to score points after points and in the process winning accolades not only from their countrymen and women, but also from their competitors. That was the time when Pakistani sports was at its zenith.
But alas! that is not the position anymore.
Nowadays, individual ego and corruption have literally tarnished that image. And, mind you, it is not just individual images that have been destroyed but rather that of the whole game or sport.

Squash and hockey were two great games, and still are, that were known globally not just for the tactics of the game but for gracefulness of the Pakistanis who dominated them, years ago.
