As it is rightly said that with great power comes great responsibilities but if the power is huge, responsibility automatically doubles. In Pakistan it’s a common perception that if you are honest with your work it is nearly impossible for you to survive and as it is said that “to dream is easy, to work is also easy but it’s really difficult to work according to your dreams”. Syed Mustufa Kamal Mayor of Karachi is one of those influential people who said that “I have a dream and I will achieve it” and surely he has shown how to achieve your dreams when your vision is clear.
Mustafa Kamal is an MBA from University of Wales in UK and under graduate from Malaysia. He became the Mayor of Karachi, largest city of Pakistan on October, 2005. It was his attitude and commitment to the citizens of Karachi that has made him such a dynamic leader. His belief that the city of Karachi can compete in the global arena with the leading developing cities of the world has made him a champion of undertaking projects, developments and finishing them in record time. The challenges to run a city like Karachi were very high and he had a tall order to fulfill. He successfully built a very good team around him and then very diligently divided the challenges faced by the citizens of Karachi into different teams.
Mustafa Kamal led City District Government Karachi (CDGK) completed 2,496 projects in the city during the last four years while work on 126 mega projects was still under way. So what has Mustafa Kamal really done?

Awards given to Syed Mustafa Kamal
Mustafa Kamal declared second best world mayor
From DAWN:
“An award winning American magazine Foreign Policy, has chosen Nazim Karachi, Syed Mustafa Kamal as second among the three best mayors in the world for the year 2008.
The magazine has included the names of Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit and Wang Hongju, Mayor of Chongqing as the other mayors of the moment, said a CDGK statement issued on Sunday.
The magazine said no city globalises on its own, but with shrewd investments and smart urban planning, a mayor can help turn a regional player into a global powerhouse. About Mustafa Kamal the magazine wrote that the mayor of Karachi is an unlikely poster child for innovative urban planning.
It said the 36-year-old Mustafa Kamal governs a city that’s more often in the news for religious violence than cosmopolitan ways. But the hard-charging Kamal is looking to change all that. He’s courting foreign investment, encouraging international ties, and boosting the city’s tourism.
According to the US magazine Kamal is not shy about his goals: He has said he wants to turn Karachi into the next Dubai. His Green Karachi project aims to plant thousands of trees in the city. Kamal is not letting anything stand in the way of his grand plans. He has threatened to arrest anyone who tries to cut down the new saplings, it added.
In a statement, the Nazim said that in the past there was no concept of ownership in Karachi. He said his administration carried out development works on a large scale, but added that lot of work still remains to be done.”
Mustafa Kamal among ‘Young Global Leaders-2010′
KARACHI: The World Economic Forum (WEF) has included former Karachi nazim Mustafa Kamal in the 197 ‘Young Global Leaders-2010’ for his performance and executing massive development works in the metropolis. The WEF selects 200 prominent personalities annually, in recognition of their services and declares them ‘Young Global Leaders’, said a statement issued by MQM.
what has Mustafa Kamal really done?
I would ask people to read this blog not as a political affiliation or statement, because neither me nor the DoodhPatti project editors have any desire to make political statements. I invite readers to look at his contributions beyond his affiliations and personal preferences and be objective in evaluating what was our City before his tenure and what it is now.
Conclusion
Many people came and many people will come but I am sure that no one can achieve what this young man has done for the City of Karachi and in turn for Pakistan. Even though Syed Mustafa Kamal is not in the highlight any more but he will surely live in our hearts for his work speaks for his character. We pray for more success to him in life and for more development and a brighter future of Pakistan. (Ameen)

Thank you
Its a natural human behavior, if someone talks to you in such a high tone you’ll also maintain the same phase and if you don’t than you are not normal. All of the above videos don’t prove or mean anything. Syed Mustafa Kamal was our hero… he is our hero and he will always be our hero
@RK
I agree with RK Mustafa Kamal doesn’t deserve to be our nazim … hate Musti
This is great news and great progress for Karachi. Also, this should serve as a model for rest of Pakistan. Please tell Mr. Kamal that he needs to also address some key issues regarding sanitation in the city. How clean the city is will make it attractive to residents and tourists alike. Another point, there should be strong emphasis on public transport with clean technology [which is already available in Pakistan]. And lastly, in my frequent visits to Pakistan I have noticed the local people do not take pride in their own homes let alone their city. Please start a great media blitz to encourge people to sweep their own front sidewalk, dispose of garbage in proper manner, clear up their own homes and streets, organize street clean up community projects, etc. etc. when people start caring about their own homes and streets this will spill over to the city streets, shops, malls, roads, etc. etc.
And for the love of all that is good, please put more trash bins around shopping centre and public areas… people need to see clean city so they can take pride in it!
He das done good work
No doubt. Mustafa Kamal is the great Mayer of Karachi.
His – ONLY – focus somehow was infrastructure. He was & perhaps still is, obsessed with making roads. As if he was appointed as a ‘Thekey-Daar’, not a mayor.
Previous Mayor initiated all these projects, he continued & finished them. I’ll give him credit for that without being too harsh on him. But, I wish he’d spent most of his time on welfare issues.
@RK. I’ve seen these videos. In fact, i used to have some respect for him before he proved him to be a ‘Jaahil’ who does not have basic ethical values, let alone being educated.
Acheivements apni jagha – but good behavior is above all the most important achievement to be a true hero. A true hero wins the hearts of people by addressing them in a polite courteous manner no matter what the circumstances.
No doubt, he has done tremendous great projects for us – but he really needs to work on his reactions to be called a true hero. Maybe he will realize this over time….
I LOVE ALTAF BHAI
I LOVE SMK
G A MUTTHADA
I highly appreciated MQM and Syed Mustafa Kamal.
He is a good example of leadership
