February 3rd, 2010 medigineers 7 comments

afridiEvery single Pakistani and Australian journalist and blogger have written on why in the world would Afridi do such a stupidity.. calling him  a plain idiot to asking what the hell if at all he was thinking. It is indeed mind boggling and would remain in memory as such till the day he plays cricket. Here are our top ten real reasons of why Shahid Afridi started biting the ball (read eating) as the match got closer to finish…

10 ) Apples are good for health.

9 ) Was checking to see if the Australians had bitten it.

If Your Password Is 123456, Just Make It HackMe

January 25th, 2010 medigineers 1 comment

accessdeniedBack at the dawn of the Web, the most popular account password was “12345.”

Today, it’s one digit longer but hardly safer: “123456.”

Despite all the reports of Internet security breaches over the years, including the recent attacks on Google’s e-mail service, many people have reacted to the break-ins with a shrug.

According to a new analysis, one out of five Web users still decides to leave the digital equivalent of a key under the doormat: they choose a simple, easily guessed password like “abc123,” “iloveyou” or even “password” to protect their data.

Good enough to chase 50-60?

January 6th, 2010 medigineers 6 comments

Honestly…. I am sure none of you actually believed with any level of confidence at any point Mohammad-Yousufthrough the last six days that this Pakistani “herd” is good for anything. I am sorry but I can’t use the word “Team” as it is reserved and defined by multiple dictionaries for a group of people working towards a common goal. A good team is said to be one where the whole of the team is greater than the sum of its parts. Need I say more? This is as close as any time the Aussies allow opponents to come close to beating them at their home grounds … those who dare, plan and have finesse… do it…

Yousuf’s captaincy not lacking anything because there wasn’t anything to begin with to lack. Yousuf needed to show some anger (from Imran Khan’s book of captaincy) and bully the boys to do the jobs they have been hired by the rest of the nation (they are all on central contracts and yes there paid from mine and your tax money) to do.

12 things computer users should fear in 2010 – Part 2

6. Spam

Spammers took a body blow during 2009 when the notorious McColo Internet Service Provider was kicked off-line.  The volume of spam plummeted from around 80 percent of all e-mail to 20 percent.  Temporarily.  By year’s end, nine out of 10 e-mails were spam, and the number keeps climbing.

“Can it get to 95 percent?,” Lee asked, rhetorically. “It never ceases to amaze me how much we put up with this.”

7. Finally, Apple gets respect – from cybercriminals

For years, the worst-kept secret in the computer security world was the safety of using Macintosh computers. It seemed that criminals didn’t bother trying to attack Macs. This was no political statement, however. It was merely pragmatism: Apple products were a small target. But with the uptick in Mac market share, the increasingly popularity of Apple’s Safari Web browser and the ubiquity of the iPhone, expect criminals to target Steve Jobs’ products, says Leonard.  Already, he says, there have been a handful of iPhone attacks.

12 things computer users should fear in 2010 – Part 1

About once a year, computer security news leaps out of the technology section and onto the front page and the top of network news broadcasts.  This year, the day was April Fools’ Day, as the Conficker worm became the latest malicious program with the power to eat the Internet.  Somehow, we soldiered on, most of us without ever having to kick on the emergency power generators or dig into that can of spam in the basement shelter.

security

But Conficker, while no dramatic outbreak, was also no laughing matter to the hundreds of thousands of Web users who were infected.  The problem with the hype cycle in computer security news is that it can have an incremental “cry wolf” effect on computer users.  The odds that the Internet will topple over in 2010 are, once again, quite low.  But serious threats abound and bad guys are mostly still outpacing good guys in our virtual world, which will be slightly more dangerous than this year. Here are 12 reasons why:

Imran Farhat…. Not good enough !

December 15th, 2009 medigineers 1 comment

imranfarhat4On the face of it Imran Farhat joined a select band of openers who have carried their bat through an innings. On the face of it his lion hearted effort rescued Pakistan from calamity on a track that had pace, some bounce, but little else. It was a good toss to win. On the face of it Farhat has just solved one half of Pakistan’s problem at the top of the order.

But numbers and scorecards are misleading. Just as the statistic that Danish Kaneria has risen above Abdul Qadir in Pakistan’s order of Test merit says nothing about the relative qualities of the bowlers -- Qadir for my money was world class, Kaneria is just worthy of an international cap -- so today’s scorecard tells us nothing about the true nature of Farhat’s innings.

In an innings of panic, Farhat was the most panic stricken. In a desert of technique, Farhat was often the driest, except when leathering his trademark knee-on-the-ground drive to the off-side boundary. One particular stroke -- as he charged and thrashed a good length ball to oblivion, in his mind sending it sailing over the long on boundary but in reality skying it over the slips -- defined the ineptitude of Pakistan’s display, and may become a contender for the stroke most unworthy of a Test opener.

Movie on Prophet Mohammad by ‘Lord of the Rings’ producer

Barrie Osborne movie on muhammad

Oscar-winning producer Barrie M. Osborne is best known for fantastical films employing messianic characters, specifically “The Matrix” and the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Lately though, he’s focusing directly on religious material rather than stories that reference those texts. Osborne is already at work on “Kingdom Come,” a Biblical epic about the life of Jesus, which will be directed by “Lord of the Rings” visual effects artist Dean Wright. And now, according to The Guardian, he’s planning a $150 million film about Muhammad, the founder of Islam.

One Night Only – Dream Girls – the movie (2006)

October 22nd, 2009 medigineers No comments

I know most of us are not the diehards ‘oh yes!’ sort, on Hollywood musicals. But every once-in-not-so-many years Hollywood produces a musical block buster. Dream Girls (2006) is one spectacular movie musical experience!

dreamgirlsBased on long running hit Broadway musical with the same name, the movie is a love triangle of two females singers played by Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce and a male singer / producer  Jammei Fox. It is a story of this trio of black female soul singers who crossover to the pop charts in the early 1960’s. The movie is all about the struggle for success, quest for love and then the eventual fall from grace.

When I watched this movie on my 40-inch TV screen at home, I was so blown away by the sound tracks, the songs and the overall handling of the screenplay. I was so blown away from it all that I watched the film twice in one sitting, and at the end ended up watching the songs two more times.
